November 2003 saw a new incarnation of the Time Lord, played by Richard E. Grant, appear on the BBC website. To date it's the only other outing for this TARDIS team.

TRIVIA:

There is a namecheck to the Slarvians, a race created by myself and Mark and eventually used in Mark's Tomorrow People play, The Slarvian Menace.

DOCTOR WHO - INMATE 280

By Cavan Scott

Published in:
DOCTOR WHO - SHORT TRIPS: STEEL SKIES
(Big Finish Productions, December 2003)

The Seventh Doctor is banged up in 1940's Alcatraz. But why is the Time Lord behind bars?

TRIVIA:

Brad Travers in named in part after an old chum of mine, a certain Peter Travers of Bath.
The real Inmate 280 of Alcatraz was actually Hick Clayton who, according to the records was put away for armed robbery. I chose this particular number as a tip of the hat to Clayton Hickman, editor of Doctor Who Magazine (who has never been put away for armed robbery or any other foul deed.)
I originally came up with the idea of slamming the seventh doctor behind bars during a visit to Alcatraz in 1999. At the time I played with the idea of submitting it as a full Big Finish audio to producer Gary Russell. 'THE DRAGON OF THE ROCK' would have featured the Seventh Doctor and Ace, with the Doctor behind bars and Ace masquerading as a government agent. However, plans to submit the idea were scuppered when Big Finish announced 'Colditz' by Steve Lyons again featuring McCoy and Aldred in a historical prison environment. The idea, however, always buzzed around in my head until I had the chance to propose stories for Steel Skies.
Much of the jargon found in this story comes from the pulp fiction of the time. A dictionary of terms such as 'pitching woo' can be found here.
The original storyline proposed for this story featured a cameo from Benny.

CHRISTMAS SPIRIT

By Cavan Scott & Mark Wright

Published in:
PROFESSOR BERNICE SUMMERFIELD AND THE DEAD MEN DIARIES
(Big Finish Productions, September 2000)

Our first published work appeared in this short story collection from Big Finish productions that relaunched the career of Professor Bernice Summerfield, a spin-off character from the Doctor Who Virgin books range of the early 1990s. A festive tale of ghosts and regrets.

TRIVIA:

Christmas Spirit was born of my long-time fascination for Charles Dicken's Christmas Carol and the idea of spooky goings in the Advent Season.
It is the first Benny story to feature the character of Mr Crofton, the gruff Collection caretaker. We would return to him in the 2003 story The Crystal Flower.
The characters of Steve and Viv are named after SFX reviews editor Stephen O'Brien and his then girlfriend Vivian Turner.
